synopsis

synopsis

Measured by the number of productions, Nigerian Nollywood is considered the "second largest film industry in the world" (UNESCO) - after Indian Bollywood, but ahead of Hollywood. The industry, based in the port metropolis of Lagos, has long been known primarily for quickly produced low-budget films. However, in recent years, the industry has seen major changes. New multiplex cinemas are opening in Africa's megacities and the Internet enables low-cost worldwide distribution. A turbulent dynamic is set in motion.

The film accompanies diverse characters who seek to turn this dynamic into success. A German start-up entrepreneur experiences the miracle of his career: it starts with a few uploads of Nollywood films on YouTube and leads to the creation of the company that is now known as 'Netflix of Africa'. A Nigerian director dreams of a pan-African cinematic movement and creates exceptional reference works. A UK-based TV-producer returns to his motherland to make the big breakthrough: "We're here to become the Tarantinos and Steven Spielbergs of Nigeria."
