Galamsey – For a Fistful of Gold
What does it mean for the inhabitants of a small town in Ghana to live on one of the largest gold deposits in the world?
As a young development worker, the narrator of the film witnessed the outbreak of a new gold rush in Twifu Praso, triggered by mining technology imported from China. Five years later he returns to find out how life has changed. In his research, he encounters destruction, discord and a mighty magnetism between gold and human beeings.
June 30, 2018, Goethe Institute Accra. Screening of Galamsey in presence of the Ghanaian Minister for the Environment Prof. Kwabena Frimpong Boateng (3rd from left) with subsequent discussion.
